Abey George’s parents were Kallooppara Neithalloor Mannil P.George and Aanicaud Paarolickal Reichal George. He was born on 11th June 1958 in Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta District. He studied at St.Joseph’s High School, Thiruvananthapuram, until 9th grade and then completed his matriculation from Punnaveli CMS high School, Tiruvalla. He pursued his Pre Degree and Degree courses in English Literature at Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram. He joined the Congress Party in his college days and became active in student politics. He was a member and a leader of Kerala Students Union (KSU) and supported their campaigns. He served as the President of AMICOS (Association of Mar Ivanios College Old Students) from 2010 to 2015.
Politics and Career
Abey George began his political journey in college as a KSU member. He rose to become a leader and the District President of this student organization. He was always at the forefront of KSU and Indian National Congress’s causes, activities and protests. He led by example and never lacked spirit or energy. His attitude earned him both respect and trouble. He was one of the leaders of the agitation against the marks scandal that shook the education sector in Kerala. He was arrested and spent 14 days in custody for his role. His and others’ sacrifices resulted in a more transparent and fair educational system in Kerala, and a better future for the deserving and hardworking students. The students appreciated his dedication, as evident from the huge victory he secured as the University Union Councilor, a record that still stands. He became a member of the University Senate and fought for the students’ welfare. He narrowly missed the chairperson’s seat by two votes. Abey did not stop his political activities after college. He held various positions like Member of National Monitoring Committee for Notified Minorities, Independent member for Minimum Wage Board by Govt. of India, Member of Film Censor Board of Kerala Region, Director of Kerala Tailoring Welfare Board, General Secretary of District Congress Committee and Executive Member of Kerala Pradesh Congress committee. He got to interact with a diverse range of people from different age groups, genders, communities and castes. He has a wife, Beena Annies Benjamin, who worked for Syndicate Bank and two daughters. Both his daughters are doctors and follow their father’s footsteps in serving the society.

Swasthi Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to provide free health check-ups, awareness campaigns and support groups for the underprivileged and the vulnerable. Abey is the driving force behind the foundation. ’Swasthi Foundation, since inception has been the prime concern in Abey’s life and continues to be. He is the General Secretary of this worthwhile organization, and is a key planner in all its activities for social welfare and human justice. Abey George the student leader to Abey George, the politician , to Abey George the Social Committed Welfare activist, is a study in human kindness and social involvement. The future surely has more in store for him and for humanity, from him.
The Cancer Safe Kerala Project is a visionary initiative with a major goal: to provide free cancer screening programs to the entire population of Kerala. Early detection is critical in improving the chances of successful treatment, and the project will also offer timely referral and follow-up services to those in need. In addition, data on the prevalence, incidence, and mortality of different types of cancer will be collected and analyzed to enhance cancer control policies and programs in the state.
